Our founder Brendan Breen developed a passion for the sea at an early age, growing up in the coastal town of Duxbury, Massachusetts. Combining his love of the sea with his entrepreneurial spirit, Brendan went on to attend the University of Rhode Island, where he received his B.S in Aquaculture and Fisheries.
It was in this time at college the idea for the Mercenaria Pearl was born out of a desire to create something entirely original,
captivating, and rooted in passion. After two years of research and persistence, Brendan's dream was realized, as he developed the world's first cultured quahog pearl, and a comprehensive technology for it's continued replication.
The Mercenaria Pearl is now in patent pending status, and in a commercial scale of production as of September, 2018. We are giving a new life to the an iconic part of New England culture, the Quahog Clam, and we are doing it in a way that is both as beautiful as it is unprecedented.
